Acer and Gateway launch new range of computers

Acer and Gateway launched their newest range of PCs, laptops and servers at the Sydney Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour.

The Acer range targets a broad market including SMBs and the Gateway line will strictly aim for consumers.

The new Acer Veriton 490 and 680 series PCs are for the commercial market and are made of environmentally friendly materials. The 680 uses Intel Core i7 processors and a Q57 chipset. Prices for the 490 series start from $1069 and 680 series from $1129.

The Acer Aspire 5820T, also named the Timeline X series, is designed to be a slimline device for home, school and office users on the move. The vendor claims it can run for up to eight hours on a single charge and it costs $1599.

Acer’s Aspire 5943G and 8943G have 15.6-inch and 18.4-inch screens, respectively. The 8943G’s screen supports Full HD 1080P resolutions and runs with an Intel Core i7 processor as well as up to 16GB of DDR3 memory and an ATI Radeon HD 5850 graphics card. The 5943G costs $2799 while the 8943G is priced at $2999.

The AR110 F1, AT310 F1, AT350 F1 tower servers and the AR360 F1 and AR380 F1 rack servers are the latest additions to the Acer range. The AT350 F1 provides 18 DDR3 memory slots for up to 144GB of RAM. It has two Gigabit Ethernet ports and the ability to take up to eight SAS or Serial ATA drives.

The rack server models use 2.5-inch hot-swappable hard drive bays for data storage and have 18 DDR3 memory slots along with Intel Xeon 5500/5600 series processors. Prices start from $849 for the AR110 F1 and go up to $3365 for the AR380 F1.

The Acer Aspire 5741 series of laptops feature 15.6-inch screens and use DDR3 RAM with an option for a built-in 3G modem. Pricing starts from $899. The Aspire 5745G supports up to 16GB of DDDR3 RAM over four DIMM slots. It supports Intel Core i5 and i7 CPUs and users can expect to pay $1399.

The cow-patch branded Gateway computers come with a range of designs aimed at general consumers. The ID59C is considered by the vendor to be its hero laptop thanks to its 15.6-inch screen, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor and Intel Core i7-620M. A 640GB hard drive provides storage space and the unit’s pricing starts at $2099.

The LT, EC and NV ranges of notebooks offer built-in 3G modems as an extra with the EC sporting an 11.6-inch form factor and Intel ULV CPUs.

The Gateway ZX range of desktop PCs are powered by Intel Pentium Dual Core CPUs and have 20-inch displays. The all-in-one PC can come with a multi-touch enabled screen.

The SX and DX series PCs are traditional box-based units. The DX uses Intel Core i5 and i7 CPUs along with NVIDIA graphics cards. The FX68 is the vendor’s high-speed PC with a maximum storage capacity of 4TB thanks to its two 3.5-inch easy-swap hard drives and costs $1999.

All Gateway products are distributed exclusively through Synnex while Acer devices are available through Bluechip Infotech, Ingram Micro and Synnex.
